For the latest issue of Automotive Inquirer, I put the spotlight (no pun intended) on “pop-up” headlights. This was another fun issue to work on as I played around with the photo lighting to mimic more of a dusk setting to emphasize the headlight theme. Leave me a comment if there is something you’d like to see different about this cover!

I used to think that marketing is talking about what you do. Now, I don’t like talking about what I do because I’m pretty sure most people don’t care. Not that I don’t have people who like and support me - they just have themselves, their families, and their teams to take care of first. So what makes real marketing? What gets people to pay attention? It’s not about what you talk about; it’s what you’re doing. If you’re struggling to find new things to say about what you’re doing, it means you’re probably not doing something that is very interesting. That struggle is an acknowledgement that you don’t think people will care. There is only one remedy: DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.Gary Vaynerchuk, a great marketer and genuinely kind Internet personality, helped me understand the value of documenting what you’re doing versus rehearsing a script and going all robot on camera. But when you think about what that takes, you know as well as I do, no one will watch if you’re not doing something really novel, really interesting, or really bold.So onto the video below. One way to hold yourself to account to doing something novel and interesting is to partner with other marketers who want to create and tell good stories. Partners hold you to account and they help you hold yourself to account. They also make the work fun and enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Audi Richmond and all of the other partners who came together to make this project a success. The future is bright when sustainability is baked-in.

When it comes to choosing between “butts” or “boobs,” the decision might be easier than you think—especially when it involves the sleek, sexy rear end of the Gordon Murray T.33. As car enthusiasts, we know that the design of a car’s rear can evoke as much admiration as any other part of the vehicle. The T.33, a masterful creation by Gordon Murray, combines cutting-edge engineering with a classic aesthetic, making it the ultimate embodiment of automotive beauty and performance. But what’s better than the sound of an engine roaring? For some, it’s the meditative experience of just listening, like our friend from the iconic 1988 Sony commercial. Choromatsu, the zen master monkey, perfectly captures the serenity we all feel when we hear the symphony of a well-tuned car engine. Just like him, we car lovers find peace in the throaty growl of our favorite machines.Enter Breckie Hill, asking the question on everyone’s mind. But this time, the answer’s easy—if the rear end belongs to a Gordon Murray T.33, we’re all about the butt. 🏎️🍑So here’s to those who appreciate fine engineering and iconic moments, blending the best of both worlds with a dash of humor. In this episode of the Uncertain Value podcast, I'm delighted to have a conversation with Karoline Huber, a Color, Material, and Finishes Designer (CMF) at Zoox, the creator of autonomous vehicles. She explains to me what a CMF designer does. We talk about her journey from architecture to designing the interiors of luxury cars made by Tesla, Land Rover, and Aston Martin. We discuss the differences and similarities between studying in Austria and California, and the importance of a strong work ethic, no matter where you are on the planet. https://lnkd.in/gxcRdcjA

Testing this new workflows and its boundaries - Gen3 of Runway (video-video).Some takeaway notes:1. when planning your video-video, you should really capture footage that has the right shapes you’re trying to augment later with Gen3. For example I took the time to build the Angela’s halo (glow sticks are the best). I also built the devil’s horns and made them come out of a beani, so it looks like it goes out of the devil’s head more naturally in Gen3.2. Gen3 has an awesome prompt guide directly on their platform, I really recommend start building your prompt with their guidance. 3. If you’re trying to really change your environment and not be stricked by the shapes you have around you (like the closet and the drawers in my room), you should shoot your video on a white (or any plain color) walls, and try to not have any other objects in the background. This way, you’ll be able to transform your surroundings completely.Let me know if you’d like to see a tutorial video about how I made this one.

Rarity of ragtops in Taipei explained Taipei has plenty of sunny weather and folks able to afford the new BMW 4-series ragtop shown in an ad posted on FB seen June 20, 2024. So why are there as many convertibles in Taipei as NBA players shorter than 6 ft. or about 185 cm.?It could be a cultural reason. But the real reason is shown in the bottom-left picture. It shows a non-woven, 0.5cm thick filter in a bathroom fan of a condo amid a typical residential area of Taipei after a year of use. The micro-particulates trapped in the fiber darkens the filter gradually. Stroll around Taipei to see soot covering all kinds of surfaces indoor and out that are not cleaned regularly.Such are trivial issues for rich consumers who buy into the allure of wind-in-hair driving conveyed in the ad. Just take the advice of the chimp shown and never wear light-colored clothes as you slide into the leather-upholstered bucket seat when the BMW has been parked top-down for a week in the city.#RarityOfRagtopsInTaipeiExplained

We've exciting news to share: a group of our colleagues recently had a successful and enjoyable visit to the Nuremberg Toy Fair. Their involvement went beyond mere play – as they offered expert counsel to clients on the latest developments in the toy industry. In the realm of toys, it's remarkable that the renowned Playmobil figure is commemorating its 50th anniversary. These figurines have made a significant impact, with billions sold. They could collectively form a chain long enough to encircle the Earth almost four times (says the Speyer Museum). This emphasises their global influence and enduring popularity.Playmobil figures hold a prominent position in the realm of toys, exemplifying inclusivity by representing a wide spectrum of professions, ethnicities, and nearly every conceivable minority group. From astronauts to zookeepers, they encompass a diverse range of roles. If there was a symbol of unity in the toy world, it may just be the Playmobil figure.#playmobil #anniversary #toys #nuremberg #nürnberg #toyfair #ip #intellectualproperty #patent #fridaymood
